1956
- The first environmental safety publication is created at P&G, measuring surfactants in rivers.
1964
- P&G's Environmental Water Quality Laboratory is established.
1971
- P&G Environmental Safety Department is formed. The organization has published more than 700 articles over the past 45 years.
1973
- Publication of the Sturm Test, the forerunner of the Ready Biodegradability Test. This test has been adopted for use by environmental agencies around the world.
1981
- P&G co-founds the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry
1992
- United Nations World Environment Center awards Gold Medal to P&G for International Corporate Environmental Achievement
1995
- P&G pioneers use of Life Cycle Assessment to design Municipal Solid Waste Management systems
1999
- P&G forms a corporate sustainability department and publishes an annual sustainability report
2001
- UK Financial Times and Stock Exchange (FTSE) 4Good launched; P&G listed every year since inception
2005
- Tide Coldwater introduced, promoting low-temperature washing to save up to 80% energy per load
2006
- The Intellectual Property Owners Association named P&G National Inventor of the Year for the design and development of PUR purification sachets
2007
- P&G recognized by EPA for Children's Safe Drinking Water program
- 2X compacted liquid detergents debut in the U.S.
2008
- P&G wins Champion award, the highest honor, from EPA's Design for Environment Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative
- Ranked 12th of 541 on the Covalence Ethical Rankings
2009
- Ranked 14th on Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine's Annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List
- Winner, Social Innovation Award
- Presidential Green Chemistry Award for Sefose molecule
- P&G named to Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World
2010
- 13th on Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World
- P&G announces long term strategy to move towards zero environmental impact, with target goals for the decade
2011
- Procter & Gamble continues to be a leading member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. P&G is the sector leader for the Nondurable
Household Products (HOU) sector - Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America and Dow Jones Sustainability Index United States.
We have maintained our membership of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since it was first developed in 1999.
